AHERA Asbestos Inspections
Since 2004, RainCrow has been providing AHERA, OSHA and NESHAP asbestos inspection services to schools and businesses across the state of Alabama. RainCrow is an accredited AHERA management planner as well and has worked tirelessly in assisting school systems with their AHERA programs to keep compliance with the AHERA Rule.
Projects have included asbestos inspections for the pivate and public school systems, residential NESHAP inspections prior to demolition, and NESHAP inspections involving historical buildings for the purpose of extensive renovations.
Our staff have backgrounds that not only include a deep understanding of the hazard exposure to asbestos but years of experience in building construction and design.
Ambient Air Monitoring
RainCrow performs monitoring equipment acquisition, installation, calibration and maintenance. Specialized monitoring capabilities include facility fence line monitoring at petroleum facilities using personal sampling pumps or SUMMA canisters, in-line production sample collection and analysis, and leak-detection surveys for processing facilities.
All monitoring, sampling and sample analyses are executed in accordance wiht Federal EPA, State CARB, and local APCD regulations and analytical methods (like EPA Title V).
Ambient Air Monitoring Services
Criteria Pollutants
Particulate Matter (PM10), O3, CO, NO2, SO2, Pb.
Hydrocarbon Pollutants
Methane, non-methane, and total hydrocarbon monitoring.

Low Level VOCs
In ambient air, using pressurized sampling systems and sub-atmospheric pressure sampling.
Particulate Matter Pollutants

Halocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, carbonyls, poly aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), toxic metals monitoring, and hydrogen sulfide (H2S).
Meteorology
Wind speed, wind direction, ambient temperature, relative humidity, atmospheric pressure, thermal mixing, windroses, and solar radiation. See meteorological services section.
Maintenance, Installation and Operation of Ambient Air Sampler Systems
High-volume samplers for PM, semi-volatiles analysis using Polyurethan Foam (PUF) and XAD resin media (EPA TO-13) and volatile organic analysis using SUMMA® canisters and Tedlar® bags (EPA TO-14A). TSP, Cascade Impactor sampling, sulfur compunds, heavy metals, H2S and aldehydes.
On-Site Organic Gas Analysis
Using an organic vapor analyzer (OVA) such as a photoionization detector (PID) or flame ionization detector (FID).
Screening for industrial gasses
Using toxic gas detector tubes.
Air Monitoring during Cleanup Operations
HAZCAT characterization of leaks, spills, and unknowns.
Installation and Operation of a Portable Meteorological Station
Record ambient parameters at the sample site throughout the clean-up period.

Indoor Air Quality
RainCrow provides indoor air sampling and analysis for health risk assessments and liability investigations. RainCrow performs reconnaissance investigations to obtain an assessment of the current conditions, to help design the monitoring program and to verify the chemicals of concern for the program. Our monitoring capabilities include:
-
Differential Pressure
-
Airflow and exchange rates
-
Volatile organic compounds
-
Semi-volatile organic compounds
-
Formaldehyde
-
Pesticides and PCBs
-
Mold and fungus

Industrial Hygiene
Indoor Air, Asbestos and Heavy Metals
RainCrow maintains IH sampling equipment for VOCs, CO2 (carbon dioxide), nuisance dust, asbestos, heavy metals and toxic gases such as CO (carbon monoxide) and formaldehyde. Our industrial hygiene services include:
-
Area monitoring during excavation and remediation operations
-
Indoor air surveys and investigations
-
Community and residential exposur monitoring, such as landfill gas intrusion into residential homes and communities
-
Worker protection and exposure monitoring
-
Asbestos and lead-based paint
Meteorological Services
RainCrow provides meteorological (MET) services for new, developing and ongoing air monitoring programs. RainCrow maintains a range of MET equipment, as well as providing assistance with site selection and insturment acquisition and installation. Our capabilities incllude:
-
MET performance audits and calibrations of MET towers and tripods
-
Remote access data acquisition systems
-
Compliance with MET station requirements for Special Performance Monitoring (SPM), State and Local Air Monitoring Stations (SLAMS) and Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) programs

Project Management
RainCrow performs complete project management of air monitoring programs. Our project management begins with a thorough review of existing data and may include reconnaissance investigations to determine the chemicals of concern. RainCrow interfaces with regulatory agencies to determine methodologies, practical quantitation limits, QA/QC protocols, and physical requirements of the site to determine the most legally defensible monitoring program is performed. RainCrow will acquire, install, calibrate, and operate all monitoring equipment in accordance with applicable state or federal guidelines, as well as perform all QA/QC auditing.
